I am Facebook Ads Expert that has been on the tools since 2013.
I started down this road after seeing the opportunity in social media with car dealerships at Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific and later OEM and dealer consulting firm, apd Australia.
Dealerships were concerned about this “social media thing” and didn’t know what to do. It was challenging to get them enthusiastic, but at the least we were advising on customer service opportunities.
That’s why I started Petrol Digital. A social media consultancy and media buying agency, aimed at optimising the automotive industry on social media.
After early success with dealers and dealer groups, I found other industries coming my way which were increasingly more of an interest to me.
I have worked and consulted for Government Agencies, growth hungry businesses such as real estate brokers, accounting firms, home improvement, event promotion companies and even a Grammy Award winning musician.
However, before that I worked for:
R.L. Polk Australia
I worked for a company that was then know as Polk Australia, processing new car sales reporting figures for a industry new car sales report known as VFACTS. These car sales figures were reported down to make, model and variant by postcode. It is quite powerful data for the automotive industry.
DaimlerChrysler & Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific
I started in the Parts Pricing/Sales Department, analysing and reporting on the sales on parts across all of their passenger and commercial vehicle divisons.
I then worked in the Service & Parts Marketing Department, analysing sales figures and the effectiveness of marketing and customer service initiatives. I worked closely on our customer service surveys and was lucky enough to partake in industry wide awareness initiatives, such as the introduction of the ISOFIX child seat securing system in Australia.
apd Australia is a automotive consultancy firm, that worked closely with OEM’s and dealers in making their brand and dealer the best it could be.
I worked on a variety of clients, with the issue of how to do social media increasingly being put to me.
How to use social media, engage customers and respond to communication was fast becoming a top issue for the industry.
Melbourne Mustangs Ice Hockey Club
The Mustangs are one of two Melbourne teams in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL), Australia’s top ice hockey league.
This was a volunteer position that eventuated from a committee member discovering my fan blog of the Vancouver Canucks.
I started on the social media marketing team, then became Social Media Marketing Manager to in the end, Vice President.
It was a fantastic experience with the pinnacle being the clubs first championship being won in 2014.
Being able to lift and drink from the 3rd oldest Ice Hockey championship trophy in the world, the Goodall Cup, was something ill never forget.
The Mustangs enabled me to do amazing things with the platforms available to us. The social media team was able to grow the fanbase to the largest in the league, with a fan experience and digital participation we were proud of and that attracted the attention and interaction of NHL teams. It was a fantastic community and brand building experience.
During that time, I was part of a fun, unofficial AIHL podcast called It’s All Goodall. We rode the front page of iTunes for a few weeks.
I after growing up in northern NSW, I moved to Melbourne in 1999 following a family business move.
I live in Bayside Melbourne with my wife and two kids. I love being a father and pride myself on the ability to be as involved in their lives as much as possible.
My wife is Canadian, we met via a Facebook humour group long ago and hit it off. She was so good to hang out with, I got on a plane to Canada to go and meet her. And here we are, two kids later.
Facebook is a large part of my life. We use it to connect with our interests, we use it to communicate with far away family, we use it to call our parents at a drop of a hat.
It’s been a greatly influential tool in our lives and I look forward in bringing all of that experience to you all.
